Senior Pre-Breeder

(Full-time 35 hours, Takii France, Eyragues)

Takii France is a full daughter company of Takii Japan. The R&D department of Takii France is responsible for breeding and pre-breeding research programs in fruit and root vegetables.
The pre-breeder is responsible for pre-breeding programs to enable developing varieties with new traits of a certain crop that meets market requirements and breeding and production criteria, so that the right product becomes available for production and sales.

What you will be doing

As a pre-breeder at Takii France you will be responsible for the scientific management of pre-breeding research in cabbage and onion at the Takii France site in Eyragues.
The pre-breeder will enable the development of varieties with new traits in these crops that meet market requirements, breeding- and production criteria, so that the right product is available for seed production and sales. In collaboration with the breeders within Takii Europe you identify traits and topics of interest for research. You facilitate discussions with the team to draft a mid-term research plan, aligning efforts with overarching objectives. Provide a guidance and mentorship to breeder assistants and analyst in the molecular biology lab. Next to this you execute pre-breeding programs, selecting plants based on predetermined objectives through visual and analytical evaluations. Record and analyse observations, results, and conclusions to inform decision-making processes. At last you maintain and develop a network with universities in France and abroad so that you can explore opportunities for collaboration on research projects. Of course you stay up to date on scientific developments and literature in genetics, breeding and related areas.
Takii France has a small research team, which is expected to grow in the coming years.

What we expect from you

You hold a PhD degree in agriculture or biology, and preferably specialised in genetics and phytopathology coupled with experience in pre-breeding activities or pre-breeding related research at an university. You have an extensive network in the academic world, opening the door to collaborative projects. Next to this you provide leadership and have good mentoring skills. Furthermore you are accurate, flexible, creative and have attention to detail. Your communication skills shine as you effortlessly interact with individuals across various departments and levels. Lastly, your proficiency in English and French is impeccable.
