Junior Phytopathologist

Location: Torre Pacheco – Murcia, Spain.
Fulltime 40 hrs.ย 

Takii Europe develops new leafy, root and fruit vegetable varieties, and flower varieties. Takii Spain conducts breeding programs for fruit vegetables and advances leafy and root vegetable lines.

Duties

As a Junior Phytopathologist, you will execute and improve phytopathology assays that support the development of resistant breeding lines and pathology-related breeding tools. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, preparing, executing and evaluating inoculation tests using diverse plantโ€“pathogen systems.
  • Recording, analyzing and interpreting disease data with scientific accuracy, and reporting results in internal data systems.
  • Contributing to practice-based research projects aimed at optimizing protocols, experimental design and disease-screening methodologies.
  • Performing diagnostics on symptomatic plant material using classical approaches.
  • Ensuring that pathology facilities (laboratory and greenhouse) operate to high standards of biosafety, cleanliness, and technical readiness.
  • Collaborating closely with breeding teams to translate pathology findings into actionable recommendations.

Job requirements

  • Degree in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Agronomy or related fields; postgraduate specialization in plant diseases is valued.
  • Experience in plantโ€“pathogen interaction work, laboratory assays or greenhouse disease testing is valued.
  • Ability to plan and execute experiments independently, with a high level of scientific rigor.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Proactive, organized and capable of managing multiple tasks while maintaining quality standards.
  • Comfortable working both autonomously and within a small multidisciplinary team.
  • Good command of Spanish and English.

Introductory meeting
